Ethan Houser has initiated Phase II of the XII Travelers fourth monument, sculpting the full-blooded Zapotec Indian, Benito Juarez, as President of Mexico while he governed his country from Paso del Norte (present day Ciudad Juarez) during the French Intervention, from August 1865 to June 1866. The two figures of Juarez (as a child and an adult), each holding books, symbolize the education that allowed an illiterate Indian sheep herder to become the most revered president of Mexico.
